Good Enough
We Hope for A Blooming is not the best shoujo movie out there. Still, it was cute.

I liked how they didn’t focus on the romance too much, but on the character development of the main character, the friendship of the boys and the girl and the basketball games. However, it would have been better if they had explored her realtionship with her old best friend more in depth, as it felt superficial and it didn’t help develop the strong emotions that the story required.

The couple, also, had chemistry and they looked cute together. However, the love triangle was weak. Finally the performances were good.

So, six out of ten.

Okay high school romance
The message about overcoming low self esteem and mustering the courage to approach others and make friends is well meant and positive but they way it’s presented here, it comes across pretty sappy and childish at times, especially the beginning. But the movie is also a bit humorous, which kind of balances it out a little. Also there are a few likeable and funny characters and the basketball theme provides some action so it doesn’t get too boring, although the love triangle is a little bit weak. It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s nice and wholesome.
