Reviews:

I was extremely pleased by this WWE special event. Most of the matches kinda work. Still, it was a bit disappointing in others.
Originally scheduled for May 1, 2016, at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Extreme Rules 2016 switched dates and venues with 2016’s ‘Payback’, allowing more time for WWE wrestler to rest after the harsh ‘Wrestlemania’, time period. While, this show was extremely better than ‘WWE Payback’; the event, somewhat fails to live up to its namesake stipulation. A lot of matches on the card, for me personally, wouldn’t really call, hardcore style type of matches. After all, the first match of the night, had a contender getting heat, by doing a low brow in a NO- disqualification match, when it’s theoretically legal. Without spoiling the card, too much, I have to say, the pre-show match between Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin was very disappointing. Dolph Ziggler has really become so clichés and tiresome, that it’s a bit sad. I’m really hating his Shawn Michael’s rip-off look. Baron Corbin deserve better than this. Despite that, WWE Extreme Rules 2016 gave fans a lot to cheer about. The matches on the main show, logically has a reason of being there, as they were continuous story lines from ‘Payback’. I know, a lot of critics might hate that, but it makes sense to drawn the feuds, a little more, out. I hate story lines that comes out of nowhere. Anyways, the opening match of the night, was between, the PPV debuting of ‘The Club’ (Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows) Vs ‘The Bloodline AKA The Usos’ (Jimmy & Jey Uso) in a tornado tag team match. First off, I have to say the feud between these two, does work, for this type of a match, but I wouldn’t say, the match stipulation is anything near as hardcore as WWE wants you to think. After all, a tornado tag match isn’t really a weapon-based match. Yes, it’s cool that all of wrestlers involved are allowed to be in the ring at the same time, but normally, these matches comes across as sloppy, rather than a well-crafted match. It’s rare to see, these type of matches, be honestly good. Sadly, this match was below-average. However, the right team won. After all, they were looking a bit weak, coming into this. I just wish, the WWE would change, ‘the Club’, moniker. Its sounds, too much of a rip off of the ‘Bullet Club’ stable of New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Yes, I know that the team of Anderson & Gallows was original from that group, but the name really makes the WWE version, seem like second-banana. You would think, WWE would be more creative on their own, than borrowing popular references from other promotions. Anyways, the next match on the card, champion, Kallisto Vs challenger, Rusev (with Lana) for the United States Championship was surprising good, despite not being a hardcore style match. It was way differ, than the other big man vs small man feuds that Kallisto been locked in, the last several months. The submission toward the end, look sick with Kallisto’s back all misshaped. Glad, to see Rusev, back in his pre-‘Wrestlemania 31’, monster-heel phrase, after his disappointing run with ‘the League of Nation’ (Sheamus, King Barrett & Alberto Del Rio), stable group, last year. Anyways, the next match on the card, had ‘The New Day’ (Big E and Xavier Woods, with Kofi Kingston) defend their Tag Team Championship, against ‘the Vaudevillains’ (Aiden English and Simon Gotch). This match was alright for the most part. I kinda like, how much ‘the Vaudevillains’ were made, to look like a serious threat, coming in the match. I somewhat enjoyed this feud. Nonetheless, it’s the Fatal Four Way for the Intercontinental Championship between champion, The Miz (with Maryse) Vs Cesaro, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn that stole the show. With near-falls, high spots and submission holds, it was one-hell of a match. Well-executed. The next match on the card wasn’t well-crafted. The decision to allow Dean Ambrose and Chris Jericho to slog through a drawn out 26-minute Asylum match was a bad idea. Despite the surprising, and yet brutal ending to this steel cage match with weapons, it just couldn’t compete with the Intercontinental Championship. The tacks spot was too little, too late. By then, many fans had tuned out of the match and were ready to move on. The rest of the show got even worst, with the next match. The submission match for the Women Championship between Charlotte, the champion Vs challenger, Natalya was just as bad, as the previous matches between them. Not only does this storyline, make Charlotte look like, she can’t defeat, anybody by herself, but it also makes the very skill, Natalya, so foolish, that she can easily get distracted. Plus, it made, Dana Brooke’s debut pretty hallow. I guess, she can’t stand on, her own. It’s clear by, how everybody is booked, that WWE doesn’t know, how to run a Women Division right now, despite their developmental system knowing how. They made everybody look weak, here. However, the main event kinda look strong between the champion, Roman Reigns and AJ Styles for the World Heavyweight Championship in an Extreme Rules Match AKA NO- disqualification match. It was a stellar match, even if it’s missing a bit of ring psychology. The surprise, triumphant return of wrestler, Seth Rollins was the cherry on top on that. Overall: While, Extreme Rules wasn’t well received. It did have its good moments and bad. In the end, it’s a show, worth watching. Just not, worth remembering about.
