Full Review at **_Horror Focus_**We Summon The Darkness has glimpses or originality and flare throughout, sprouting up through heaps of generic sequences that do more damage than good. Luck enough, these moments do add a little zest to the experience, and remind you that there is a healthy chunk of potential to be admired. Whether it’s the charming cast or the plentiful gore, there seems to be something that will keep everyone pleased, even if not fully satisfied. The gore is delicious, the home-invasion game of cat and mouse is entertaining, if a little watered down, and the characters are ultimately the saving grace here, even down to the “coke booger’ step-mum which add a tantalisingly fun element to the whole experience. Now, this won’t be breaking new ground by any means, but it’s still a passable way to kill 90 minutes.
Gory, entertaining and often funny at a flaw, boasted by charasmatic performances from Daddario and Hasson. Expect a plot with verve or ingenuity and you will come out of this with a whimper.
Good watch, could watch again and can recommend.Alexandra Daddario (“Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief”) is expanding her range again here, I just wouldn’t have thought to cast her in a villainous style role, but she rules the scenes she is in, showing her big personality.
Amy Forsyth actually shows some big acting strength, mostly by playing a meek character which isn’t easy.
And I wouldn’t have thought Johnny Knoxville (Jack Ass) would have the commanding presence for a preacher, but he fills the atmosphere with power.
The movie itself has every sign of being some horrible slasher movie with twists, but the biggest “twist” is that everything careeens out of control. The movie honestly reminded me of “Duplex” more than “Scream”.
Honestly, without this cast working their butts off this would be a terrible movie, but the story it just interesting enough and the acting good enough to save it.
Worth the watch, but I would understand if you want to watch something else: there are a lot of choices.
Had potential – but fell flat.
Went into this one expecting a lot, I left disappointed. It’s the kinda film that reels you along, making you feel that something big is coming – and what comes is obvious and played out. It feels like a Scream rip-off, or any generic slasher really with a sprinkling of satanism, none of it really gels together. As a metalhead, the soundtrack is top-notch but good music can’t save a bad movie.
Far more fun than expected but has some issues
Heading out to a heavy metal concert, a group of girlfriends find a group of guys at the show and decide to bring them back to their friends’ house for a party, but when they’re drugged and awake they find the girls are the group running around conducting satanic sacrifices in the area and must try to get away. For the most part, this one was pretty enjoyable and had a lot to like. Among it’s better elements is the wholly fun and cheesy first half that sets everything up as an entirely different type of film than what’s going on. From the road-trip antics that give us a great deal of interest about the group and their bond together before taking us to the guys they meet at the concert, this first half paints a rather light-hearted entry about a group of fun-loving girls going to a metal concert. Taking them back to the house and attempting to have a party, this continues the light-hearted feeling with the partying and drinking and games that go on there, setting a nice tone with all the great digs and slowly-unraveling ploy involving the girls towards them that gives the film a lot to like. There’s also a lot to like in the second half here where the film goes into the fun execution of their plan and how it all goes wrong. With the general confusion found in them waking up and getting an understanding of what’s going on, the way it all falls south and they escape leads to a lot of incredibly fun chasing with the guys trying to find a place to hide while the girls are utilizing whatever they can to keep the men in line. This leads to an over-the-top series of chases and confrontations that border on the ridiculous with the way they take up the various tactics to follow through with their plan as the guys try to escape while each of the various interruptions that occur adds a bit of levity to make for a fun time. The series of bloodsoaked confrontations and battles offer several fun twists and a bunch of nice gore alongside the action, which all make for a lot to like overall. This one does have some big issues involved. The biggest issue is the lame story which contains a ton of small holes that pop up as a result of some lackluster storylines. The inability to come to terms with anything in a realistic manner, from failing to realize what’s happening around them, inherently bad decision-making about how to handle all the distractions and it just comes across as cheap with all the scattershot storylines brought up here. With that comes along an underwhelming ending that is completely flat, featuring no resolution and absolutely uninspired action that just feels quite weak compared to what came before, a factor which leads into the last flaw in that this section really could’ve gone further with the craziness. The film relies more on the craziness of the situation in general without really doing anything over-the-top with the scenario, making this somewhat disappointing that it doesn’t go as far as it could’ve. Overall, these hold it back the most.
