One of the Greats of the Cycle of Thriller’s from the 90’s!!! Underrated Excellence.
The 1990’s was a fantastic time for well made suspenseful Thriller’s & i grew up watching most of them on video.Like Cape Fear, Single White Female, CopyCat, Breakdown, Basic Instinct, Malice & many more, Unlawful Entry is one the best of the genre.
The excellent Kurt Russell (Breakdown, Escape from New York, Big Trouble In Little China, The Thing, Tango & Cash, Escape from LA, Executive Decision, Soldier & many more) plays a nice husband who with his wife played by Madaleine Stowe (Stakeout, We Were Soldiers, Another Stakeout, Bad Girls) encounter a robbery whilst at home & call the police. Unlucky for the nice couple, the cop who arrives is officer Pete Davis played to perfection by Ray Liotta (Copland, Phoenix, Identity, No Escape, Narc, Smokin’ Aces), yes the great Ray Liotta is excellent as the disturbed cop who becomes obsessed with Kurt Russell’s beautiful wife karen. It’s such a sad shame that Ray liotta is gone!!! R. I. P to truly one of the greats. If anyone can play unhinged & manic it’s Ray Liotta & here as mental Pete Davis, he delivered one of his best & most memorable performances. Of course the great Kurt Russell performs well as the stressed out yuppie husband & delivers a pure “thriller performance” that fit in nicely with Russell’s other thriller acting from the times, nothing beats his excellent performance from the suspenseful Masterpiece BREAKDOWN.
Unlawful Entry is an excellent & underrated 90’s thriller gem. Full of pot-boiling suspense & thrilling moments & excellent performances from its main three actors. I love the look, feel, music, fashion & atmosphere of these old school 90’s films & Unlawful Entry has a hot feel to it with it’s sunny Los Angeles setting. The cinematography is gorgeous of course as most Thriller’s looked back then. I also loved the night time scenes of Los Angeles, there was a creepy atmosphere to it. Very well filmed movie complemented by an almost sad/creepy score by the great James Horner.
Also a nice little bit part for the legendary character actor DICK MILLER!!! It’s always nice when he pops up in a movie.
This is a great thriller made by Largo, a production company that put out some cracking thrillers during the early 90’s (Judgment Night 1993) & seemed to put alot of effort into creating good films.
No one ever mentions Unlawful Entry & its a shame because its one of the best acted thrillers of the 90’s.
The stressed out married couple have to fight back against the psycho cop & survive his twisted games of cat & mouse.
Thrilling stuff.
