The Murder Of Sadie Hartley
Women commit far fewer murders than men, but they can be every bit as ruthless. These two were also weird and dumb, but not necessarily in that order. This documentary follows the investigation into the shocking and frenzied knife murder of businesswoman Sadie Hartley by Sarah Williams and her sidekick Katrina Walsh. The cameras are in on the action almost from the beginning, so this was obviously a project that was planned in advance, although of course the documentary makers could have had not an inkling of what was to follow.Williams was a reasonably young woman who had a 75 year old lover whose wife was apparently both aware and approving of their relationship. She also had an obsession with the live-in lover of the victim, and had planned to commit the murder for well over a year. Walsh was an older woman who suffered from alopecia and claimed to suffer from memory problems. Whether or not that claim was true, she very kindly wrote down the details of the planned murder in her diary for the nice policemen and women as well as leading them to the murder weapon, but by that time they already had bundles of evidence thanks to CCTV and mobile phone evidence. Fifty years earlier a crime like this might have gone unsolved. That’s assuming there ever was a crime like this. As the man said, you couldn’t make it up.
