A wild ride
I really enjoyed this documentary. There were a lot of interesting things going on seeing into the mind of this man. The true objective of this film is to show the endearing nature of his work. He isn’t meant to be seen as noble or incredible, and the editors did a great job of portraying how he must be in person. The Jack black segment was fun and you could tell it was a fun part of the film to make. Jared Hess akways has a knack for finding oddities and hidden gems like this. Worth a watch if you have ever wanted to peer into the mind of a Tommy (the room) character..

Stephen Groo isn’t an easy person to root for
What’s so upsetting about this documentary is that I was really hoping for Groo to change or at least notice he was in over his head and figure things out for himself.. He doesn’t. He just keeps going and he never learns or improves. He acts like he’s Kubrick, he bosses people around endlessly, and he cries when things don’t happen the way he hoped. I understand he’s had it hard in life but he doesn’t have to be a d-bag to everyone else. What also really upset me is the fact that some of the people in this film (Jack Black and Jared Hess)treat him as if he’s awesome. I get it, his movies are goofy and funny and he needs his ego inflated but come on. This guy is so narcissistic that he thinks that’s the gospel truth. You give him an inch and he’ll take a mile. The movie made me less interested in wanting to see how his movie was going to be and much more interested in how hard he was going to screw things up, which I’m someways he did and someways he didn’t. At the very most it made for an entertaining but empty character study.
