Stoked!
As a South African film maker who has dabbled a bit on the waves in my time, I had no idea that there was such a rich history of surfing in the UK! The thing that really impressed me about this film was the fact that – despite the weather and somewhat unpredictable swells – there is such a dedicated bunch of stalwart surfers on the Mud Isle! I mean, you have to be seriously daft to don a dry suit at the northern tip of Scotland and say “Yeaaaaaaah”! when catching an Arctic swell? From Cornwall right up the coast, this film opened my eyes to the best of British surfing, and is told in a really compelling and visually aesthetic manner. The blend of history and contemporary surfing is fantastic, and it has a loose, unhurried style which suits the sport, and it’s stoked disciples..to a tee.
