Plot: Real-life kung fu master Nathan Ingram stars in this gritty, low-budget martial arts epic as a local karate school owner who clashes with a gang of drug traffickers posing as the owners of a rival dojo. Director Charlie Ahearn (who helmed the landmark hip-hop film Wild Style) used the housing projects next to his New York Lower East Side apartment as his central location in this 1979 classic, shot on a vintage Super 8 camera.

Peace, I’ve met the director Charlie Ahearn and Nathan Ingram. This film is not only underrated by important. This film gave birth to the film WILD STYLE.Most of you know that WILD STYLE is recognized internationally as one of the most important films in Hip Hop history.
What’s also special about this film, is the real life story of Nathan Ingram, being captured on film.
The director manages to capture an important part of New York history with this film. It could possibly be the first time martial arts cinema and Hip Hop were put together on film. So, all you fans of the Wu Tang, take note.
If you’re interested in 70s martial arts films, retro New York and Hip Hop nostalgia, you have to give this film a chance.
