It’s anything but scary
A group of teenagers take a road trip and they stumble upon an abandoned building, where they find a homeless woman. They play a prank on her, and things get messy. The film is based on “usog”, a Filipino superstition. Just Google it if you don’t know. The movie itself isn’t scary. Literally not one single scene made me jump or scared. The climax was hilarious especially when the trio were walking in a style as if it’s some superhero movie. There were also other hilarious scenes that were intended to be scary, but actually not. Or I dunno. Almost everything was also predictable.
Filipino version of the Evil Dead
Was surprised by this one. Saw it at netflix just now and was expecting a cringy Filipino Horror flick to waste a slow moving boring Sunday afternoon on. Instead, I saw a fun, unique filipino horror film. It’s the kind of horror that would be great to watch with a group of friends, so I’ll give it a 10/10 just for thatI appreciate it as it’s very clear that the director wanted to head it into the supernatural horror-comedy genre, and combined with its special effects, it’s clear that the director is a huge fan of Sam Raimi. Even the makeup is similar to the “deadites” from the Evil Dead/Army of Darkness
The problem though is that as the movie progresses, the comedy eventually overshadows the horror, like big time. The film instead looks more like a parody of a filipino horror film. Things like using spit a weapon, then going over the top by eventually using a bucket full of spit on the sexy actress. The director definitely had fun making it. If that is what the director aimed to do, horror-comedy/parody, then for a filipino film, it’s really a thumbs up for me
Wouldve been better if there were more death scenes though, instead it looked like they had to keep it PG-13, which I believe is one of the reasons why I’ve yet to see a scary Filipino horror film. If such problems were fixed, it wouldve been a true 10/10.
