Great movie if you’re into shallow plot lines
This movie is not gripping N/A. This movie will not keep you guessing N/A. This movie is not Oldman/Ford material and why they took the job is beyond me. If you are 25 or younger it’s a great date movie (because there’s time to make out as the film drags in several spots). It doesn’t twist and turn and the revelations are minimal and far from making the audience gasp. Four out of ten stars may be generous. Good-looking stars and block-busting legends does not a good movie make; much less a great movie. Though I would like to get hold of that ring-tone. Character development was sloppy and dialog was quite pedantic.
Completely devoid of entertainment value
‘Paranoia’ is bad. It just plain is. Every element of it is done so poorly it really is quite astonishing to read some of the names associated with it. Gary Oldman, Harrison Ford, Josh Holloway (in a nothing role disappointingly), even Liam Hemsworth hadn’t done anything overly terrible up to this point (although nothing great either). Director Robert Luketic had proved himself capable with his 2008 film ’21’. I was scratching my head trying to work out where this went so wrong until I stumbled onto the screenwriters and all my questions were answered.Jason Dean Hall and Barry L. Levy are credited with writing this dog of a script and with their non-existent history of success up to this point in their careers it’s no wonder it turned out the way it did. The first problem is just how outright boring it is. It takes over an hour into the film for an action sequence of any type to take place and even that turns out to be pathetically mediocre. The dialogue is dull and the technological talk just tops off the snooze fest. All of the characters are cliché and completely unmemorable. Also the films takes far too long to wrap itself up at the end (it probably doesn’t help you’ve been wanting to switch it off for the last hour).
Luketic does have his part to play in a lot of the above as well to be fair. And the actors, despite being given very little to work with, really could have put in more of an effort. I think Hemsworth was trying, but maybe he’s just not all that talented. A real shame because this type of film done right can equal a lot of fun. Not on this occasion though.
