Nothing memorable really
“Toutes des connes” or “Life’s a Bitch” is a Canadian, French-language short film from 2014. But you can almost ignore the language and also see it without subtitles because there is hardly any dialogue in here. The thing runs for six minutes only and is live action despite an animated start. The director is François Jaros and it was written by Guillaume Lambert, who also plays the protagonist. And despite his young age, especially back then, he is/was a really experienced actor. But judging from what I saw here, I cannot say I am impressed at all. This, however, refers more to Lambert’s writing than his acting as I found this little film really unappealing and uninteresting. Nothing memorable at all here. We see a guy break up with his girl, well actually the other way around, and we see how he struggles afterward before we are reminded of the positive sides of a love relationship. This is really all there is. The scenes are extremely short and yes they may be realistic, but they are also way to quick to remember any of them after having seen it. The comedy is once or twice okay, like the scene with the book and the guy on the bike, but it’s also not enough, not even for slightly over 5 minutes only. All in all, i cannot agree with the great deal of awards attention this has received. Thumbs down. Not recommended.
