What is it about these Ice Age movies that don’t seem quite right? I think I just don’t like the sound of any of the voice actors… its like some kind of torture having them all in the same place and the same time. Of course, the kids don’t mind, and like all the other Ice Age movies, this one is quite watchable and entertaining for them. The weasel never fails to amuse and I look forward to his antics every time (this one also happens to be a nice compliment to the PS4 game). Disclaimer: I did not pay close attention to this one while on.
**This time the trouble comes finding them.**It was handed over to the two new directors and the result is not so good. This is a most simplest film in the ‘Ice Age’ series. For the first time, the franchise is in real trouble. Though it managed well at the box office, which is a below par compared to the previous installments. It looks like a short film or it should have been a short film. From the adventures to the locations, everything shrunk in this sequel. Except Scrat, who goes for a lifetime journey into the outer space.
As usual the story continued, but this time Manny and his family and friends do not go anywhere, the trouble comes to them. So they have to find a solution to escape from it. At the right rime, Buck returns from the underground and teams up with his old friends to tackle the situation. Besides, Peaches getting married and all the fun adventures from the earth, as well as from the space in the solar system aims at one direction.
Nowadays the space adventure is a big thing in films, and this franchise always extents its boundary for its new sequels, so this time it was something bigger than ever. I think it won’t get bigger than this in a concept wise. Particularly Scrat who has been the backbone for this series donned with a spacesuit. Like Minions and Penguins, I too want Scrat’s stand alone film. But I think that would not happen, not anytime soon, since those two films did not deliver the expected result.
If you are an ‘Ice Age’ series fan or not, it does not matter, you will be slightly get disappointed for sure. Now it has overtaken the ‘Shrek’ franchise with this fifth film and they are already thinking about the sixth. This is not that bad, just a watchable average film and you need to be updated if you want to continue the series in the future. So that’s the reason I suggest to watch this. Other than that, it is totally ignorable one.

The Kid liked it. I didn’t.
From the first minute, it’s clear that the writers are really desperate to bring out fresh ideas, but it just comes across as purely that; desperation. It borders on the ludicrous. My kid watched on silently, but I never heard her laugh once. Not good for a comedy. It’s dull. It’s ridiculous. It’s way over the top, even for a animated kids film with talking mammoths. It’s just plain stupid. This series has reached its end. I really hope it’s over but I hear there’s another in the works. While there’s still a modicum of profit, the machine keeps churning. It’s really sad, and an insult to the first few films, which were fun and fresh. Let it die. It’s begging to be put down.
It’ll Ice You
Ice Age: Collision Course is a good film with excellent animation, laugh-out-loud comedy and includes all your fun and favorite characters from the past movies. The film follows Manny (Ray Romano), Sid (John Leguizamo), Diego (Denis Leary) and the rest of the Ice Age gang as they must divert an asteroid from flinging them into a new age called extinction. My favorite character in Ice Age: Collision Course is Scrat (Chris Wedge) who started out as a small character in the first Ice Age film and slowly became a fan favorite and the mascot of the franchise. Scrat lights up the screen every scene he is in. His brand of slapstick humor is more present here than in any other Ice Age film. I even kind of sympathize with this character because he goes through all this trouble just for an acorn.
Another character I like is Buck. Simon Pegg’s talent really shines in his voice over work here. Buck has a big personality and, just like Scrat, has some of the movie’s most memorable laughs. He is in a lot of my favorite sequences. My favorite part of this film is when Buck tries to find a strategy to save the mammals from disaster. He seeks help from personalities in his mind including Neil deBuck Weasel. I’m a big fan of a television show Neil deGrasse Tyson did called Cosmos, so it was funny to see his foray into voice acting.
This movie is a pleasant surprise considering this is the fifth film in the franchise. I thought by now the series had run dry, but this one excels on several fronts in terms of how it looks and how much it will make you laugh. I recommend you see this in 3D. It was cool seeing asteroids barreling towards me. The effects are very polished. The computer animation in this film excels and mixes lush backgrounds with great character design. The film has good comedy, most of the time. There are one or two scenes in this film that take the joke one step too far or where it is just plain gross.
I give Ice Age: Collision Course an age rating of 5 to 18 because of some crude humor and sequences that could be scary to younger viewers. I give Ice Age: Collision Course 3 out of 5 stars.
