Best in the series
I have never been a fan of the Generation Iron series, down to it’s aesthetics and sometimes boring despite being a very interesting subject matter. This one, however, completely broke the mold in term of actually following hardships and most of all- inspiration. It tackles the difficult to speak about subject of steroids. It follows genetically gifted Ghanaians who can’t even eat enough without going bankrupt but continue to strive for recognition. It follows underdogs who are the only bodybuilders from their countries good enough to compete, showing their ups and downs. It breaks down the divisions further and teaches us more about them in a layman’s way.
It’s easy to hate on these documentaries given their nature and it’s almost piggy-backing on the success of Pumping Iron. This time, however, I’ve never felt so inspired at the end of a Generation Iron documentary.
Well done. 8/10
