Not great
The story is weak. The characters are weak. The premise is entirely unbelievable at best.
Suspenseful film
I’m not really sure why there are reviews dishing this film because it’s not “horror.” It’s listed as “drama/thriller.” Personally, I’d list it as suspense. Thought it was a very good, well done movie. The acting was very good, and the two main protagonists kept the plot moving with a lot of ambiguity. My mind was trying to predict where things were going, but the screenplay was always a step ahead. There are quite a few twists along the Devil’s Path, a cruising area in a large wooded park. I kept shifting my suspicions between characters as to who was good, and who was dangerous. There are plenty of twisting side paths and red herrings along this Devil’s Path. And the suspense builds as the sun sets.
There are a few places where some poetic license left me wondering…, “whaaat?” But I’ve seen bigger budget films that took more license, and made less factual sense.
The action keeps your interest throughout the movie, but I found the timeline of the very ending perplexing. No idea how long after the prior scene it was supposed to take place. I think it would have helped me had that been better defined.
I suppose it’s a gay film because the characters and setting are gay. But really, the story wasn’t inherently gay, and could have worked with other situations. Think “Deliverance.” It worked really well here.
Turn off the lights, turn on the movie, and get ready for some SUSPENSE.
