Reviews:

Very gruesome. Surprisingly good.
Okay, first of all, anybody who is expecting The English Patient from a movie called “Demons 2” will be sorely disappointed. This is an 80s low-budget Italian horror movie and as such has serious plot, dubbing and acting problems. That said, this is actually a very good movie for the genre.

The connection to the original movie is a bit blurry but it does try to connect the two together. Apparently somebody made a movie about the first incident, and it is this movie that “infects” a new building filled with badly-dubbed Italian actors.

The make-up effects are quite good, and the demons pretty unsettling. I’d say this movie is on par with the original Demons (largely because it is almost exactly the same movie). This is a pretty brutal movie. None of the humorous subtext that you’d find in the “Nightmare on Elm Street” sequels, “Scream” or most other modern horror movies. Nope. Just a bunch of people desperately fighting to survive, and not doing a very good job of it. They aren’t all stupid either….they do try. Unfortunately the screenwriters arranged it so that all the windows are unbreakable, and the electric doors unable to be opened.

The movie also breaks some horror movie taboos as children were surprisingly made into victims.

On a lighter note, I would also say that this is the first horror movie I have ever seen (barring Antichrist/Second Coming films)in which a character goes into labor while fighting demons.

An entertaining horror movie…..Never looked at my watch once.

‘So silly, it’s entertaining’ sequel to Demons.
Making even less sense than its predecessor, this quickly produced sequel to the Lamberto Bava movie DEMONS (1985) is incredibly dumb; throughout the movie, I was unsure as to whether the makers had set out to make a scary horror and failed, or whether the silly, confusing crap-fest that they ended up with was intentional. Either way, the movie is a disappointing sequel, but one which still manages to be quite entertaining due to its complete daftness.

For reasons that defy logical explanation, a demon emerges through a television-set in a high-tech tower block. It attacks stroppy birthday girl Sally, who is busy sulking in her bedroom whilst her friends are partying next door. Sally eventually emerges from her room, blows out the candles on her cake and then transforms into a hideous creature, attacking her pals, resulting in them becoming demons too.

The new demons proceed to drip acidic ‘goop’ that eats through the floor onto wiring, causing a short-circuit in the building’s security system, meaning that escape from the high-rise is impossible. The remaining occupants of the tower must fight for survival against the demonic monsters that now roam the building.

Special effects man Sergio Stivaletti recreates his demon make-up from the first movie, giving us big-fanged, razor-clawed, veiny-faced slobbering monstrosities that are every bit as effective as before. Unfortunately, he also gives us a naff ‘demon dog’ and a particularly bad ‘baby’ demon which elicited guffaws rather than screams from this reviewer.

Also worthy of a few laughs is the loopy script, which presents us with one bizarre scenario after another. Funniest scenes by far involve the group of survivors (which includes a gang of bodybuilders and leotard wearing women) who barricade themselves into the underground garage. They set fires to prevent the demons from entering, which works for a while; however, the demons suddenly seem to develop acrobatic skills and fly over the top of the fire, performing perfect somersaults as they go. The resourceful muscle-men fight back, using the handy axes and guns that seem to litter the basement car park.

So whacked out is the narrative of DEMONS 2, it must have been cobbled together as the makers went along, and by the end of the film you’ll be probably be sitting slack-jawed, wondering what the hell Lamberto Bava was thinking making such a stupid film.
