Watch: Coyote Lake 2019 123movies, Full Movie Online – Ester and her overbearing mother run a small bed-and-breakfast near the US/Mexico border. One night, two unwanted guests arrive, threatening the safety of everyone. But the two women are hiding a secret, one that may prove the most dangerous of all..
Plot: Coyote Lake is a reservoir on the Rio Grande along a dangerous drug smuggling route that has become synonymous with cartel violence and mysterious disappearances. It is there, on the lake, that Teresa and her seventeen-year-old daughter, Ester, run a boarding house where they routinely drug, rob and drown the unsuspecting drug-runners and human traffickers who stay the night. Teresa justifies the killings to her daughter, claiming they are ridding the world of bad people and saving the stolen money to leave Coyote Lake and start anew. But when they are taken hostage themselves by two intruding cartel gangsters, their dark routine is interrupted.

Excellent movie
It isn’t what I would consider a ‘thriller, although it is a bit dark. It is a twisted coming of age-coming into your own-wtf have I been party to- kind of movie. Definitely a great Sunday night movie that you just want to relax, enjoy and get a little lost in. I watched this and then tried to explain the plot to my husband. That’s when I realized just how extra this movie was. It has so much going on, but at the same time just flows so beautifully, that you don’t even realize the amount of horrible things it is dealing with. I loved it from beginning to end.
Thrill-less
A young woman Ester and her overbearing mother run a B & B on the border of the USA and Mexico and are seemingly quite ‘selective’ with what type of clientele they allow to stay at their B & B. However, mother and daughter soon find their world turned upside down when a man arrives late at night and forces the pair to comply with his requests whilst holding them at gunpoint…I had my concerns about this film early on as I found it really struggled living up to its ‘thriller’ tag; the set-up is actually quite dull and there is little really of worth going on in the early stages. Then when the 2 men arrive and hold the family hostage I did think to myself ‘Right we’re here now this is when it will start getting going.’ If only that were the case..
This is clearly a matter of taste, but I have to be honest and admit that I did not really like some of the narrative choices that were made in this film; I liked the home-invasion type angle that the film initially employed and could see that Coyote Lake had the potential to have plenty of tension and claustrophobia. Sadly, it doesn’t really play out this way and the majority of the film revolves around the gunman and the daughter gradually falling for one another – I can see a connection between the 2 as they both have some good in them deep down and feel somewhat trapped and controlled, but I found this a much less exciting and intense direction for the script to continue along. It may have perhaps worked better with a stronger script, but I have to admit that a lot of what I saw left me fairly unimpressed. The mother’s motivations also become clear later in the film whereby see is effectively a Latino ‘Charles Bronson’ but again the writing isn’t strong enough to make me care.
One other thing that I found perplexing is how mother and daughter are managing to kill all these cartel people without incident or detection? So are all these people just happening upon this B & B by chance without anyone else knowing where they were going or confirming where they were staying? Also none of the vehicles that they are driving have trackers fitted? There’s also precious little showing the police investigating all of these murders and disappearances – surely if they know that the disappearances are linked between the border of the USA and Mexico they would at least comb the border between the 2 countries which would naturally lead them to this B & B at some point – even more so when it’s clearly pointed out on the news report that they are going missing near a lake and the B & B is situated on a lake which seems to get conveniently ignored throughout the film??. It’s very puzzling that all of this seems to get ignored which admittedly would not have been a problem if the film would have been entertaining or thrilling which it most definitely is not.
I did quite like the ending where Ester effectively is ‘free’ again, but that aside I was hard-pressed to find any other redeeming qualities in this film.
