What would YOU do with unlimited potential?
If you’re looking for a movie with no action, no climax, a slow-moving plot, minimal story line and every-day characters, this fits the bill exactly. But that’s not a bad thing.Rating this one star above “mediocre” because it has an interesting premise and interesting characters. It’s well-directed (if minimally directed), and is worth a look-see.
The main character finds a door on the shore that allows him to travel through time. I won’t spoil any of the movie discussing what happens thereafter… but the movie asks one overall question (although very subtly): if we suddenly gained almost unlimited potential power– what would we do with it?
The characters are the strong point of this movie: the main character who is pretty much a directionless nerd, the well-grounded attorney, the loyal but near-pointless father, and an assortment of fairly well-acted bit parts. Everything fits.
But when you get to the end you’ll either love this movie, hate this movie, or meh it, one of the three. That may seem like an odd statement because well, those are the only 3 possibilities with most movies, right? But that’s the point. Given all the choices in the universe, what is the “best” choice?
For what it is, it’s reasonably done. But like the main character the film aspires to nothing. It lets the viewer take away what we will… a concept which usually flops in most films. In this film it may work for you, or it may not. It’s not a film I’d watch again, but it’s not a bad film. You can watch this or not watch it and wind up with the same results; it will likely have no effect on your life. Or then again it might, depending on where you are and who you are. And I’m not trying to be cute when I say that’s the point.
