I’m one of those kids who usually supports a horror remake, I know the online horror community is ready to crap on them at a moment’s notice, but I am always happy to go in with an open mind, and often get a lot of enjoyment out of them. Hell, John Carpenter’s original _Halloween_ is only my **fifth** favourite _Halloween_ movie. Plus, I absolutely **love** both Audrey Plaza and Mark Hamill. But this 2019 _Child’s Play_ is worse than the original in basically every way. It honestly might be the worst movie in the franchise._Final rating:★★ – Had some things that appeal to me, but a poor finished product._
I’m usually not a fan of remakes especially these days when it seems Hollywood is out of ideas and just goes around remaking movies for the hell of it. Childs Play is the exception to this rule. First off they remove the mystical element of what Child’s Play was about … there was no convict on the run or bad man who put his soul into the doll… the doll was reprogrammed or most of its functions were left open so that it would become violent and deadly. Mark Hamill played the perfect Chucky and the boy plays the perfect Andy. Even The Supporting Cast was better than I could have expected for a remake horror movie. If you skip this you’re doing yourself a disservice especially if you’re a fan of the child’s play series. You can’t deny that this is well put together. I wish I could say different because I don’t want to like remakes but even I can’t deny the fact that this was just really well done
A homage but fresh
Saw the new Child’s Play tonight. At first I was like naw, not gonna see it but then I decided to give it a chance. Glad I did, I liked it. It was able to keep the flavor and fun of the original but tell the story in a new way so you don’t feel you’re just watching a remake. You may actually feel bad for Chucky at times so that right there tells you it’s a bit different. At first I didn’t like new Andy because he’s older and seemed stupid to give an older kid a doll but the doll is evolved too, with tech that even older kids can find fun. The kid who plays Andy is good as are the other kids. Mom and the detective fit the roles nice and very different from the original characters which I think was smart. If they’d tried to just copy the originals it wouldn’t have worked because we’d always compare them.
I don’t want to give anything away but I’ll just say thanks to the Kasden cloud storage I think we may see sequels, and I’m ok with that.
Great film..
I have seen all the chucky’s series and by comparing all of those, this part matches our new era (the 21st Century). The story, gore, music and settings but….Scene from the movie that I don’t really like:
1. Talking about the doll (extremely ugly). 2. Too much violent and vulgarity especially for the younger stars from the movie. 3. Mother is too young for her kid, more like a sister to me.
