Plot: Cowboys Beauregard Decker and Virgil Blessing attend a rodeo in Phoenix, where Decker falls in love with beautiful cafe singer Cherie. He wants to take Cherie back to his native Montana and marry her, but she dreams of traveling to Hollywood and becoming famous. When she resists his advances, Decker forces Cherie onto the bus back to Montana with him, but, when the bus makes an unscheduled stop due to bad weather, the tables are turned.

Nobody Is That Stupid
William Inge’s name is often included with the best of contemporary playwrights. It would be interesting to see this play on stage and see if it’s as idiotic as the movie. Murray’s cowboy ruins any chance of taking this seriously. First of all, he is not even slightly funny. He’s boorish. He’s dumb. I don’t care if he has never been off the farm. Marilyn Monroe is Ok. It’s hard to separate her mythology from her performance. People tell me she did well, but she is Marilyn Monroe and it is hard to ignore that. Put Inge next to someone like Neil Simon and there is no contest. I didn’t care much for this movie.
