Disappointing comedy but decent-enough horror outing
Accidentally killing one of their members, a group of friends on a weekend retreat in the woods finds that the dead victim is continually coming after them for his burial in a cursed burial ground and must find a way of stopping his rampage.Though it’s certainly pretty flawed, this here was quite enjoyable from time-to-time. What makes this one work when it does is the fact that it turns from a rather lame imitation of a dude-hangout movie and become much closer to a truer horror effort, which gives this some pretty fun moments. Giving this a rather enjoyable way of reviving the body through the cursed Indian burial ground, the early scenes here are far more comedic in tone as they slowly come to realize the gravity of their situation and are drawn into the battle overall against the killer who’s giving quite a rather comical side of the slasher-film-villains invincibility that gets explored much better in the second half here. Now with the group firmly believing the story and realizing the killer is on their trail, the encounters in the roadside convenience store and out in front of the shop as well as along the route into the hillside where they get rescued by the demented religious freak living out there which gives this another rather fun encounter here are all rather fun and exciting which make for most of the film’s rather enjoyable elements. Along with the rather enjoyable bloody kills here which are pretty graphic as well as some somewhat hilarious jokes and gags from time-to-time here, these here are the film’s rather fun parts that hold it up over its’ minor flaws. The film’s biggest issue is the first half, which has pretty much next-to-nothing going for it. Focusing for the most part on their conflicting lifestyles and the whole mismatched group hanging out together, the film seems to think this is all uproarious comedy about him not fitting in with his brother’s group and how their noble stoner lifestyle is far superior to his unfulfilled blue-collar work ethic being the greatest source of comedy devised, and how this accidental death of his other friend that starts the whole chain in motion being such an inconvenience in their lives that it upsets and spoils their trip together doesn’t make this any better. That plot line throughout this one really tends to grow irritating with them constantly mentioning how they have to get away and party and let-loose with each other over doing the right and responsible actions he always implores upon them who then mock his more grounded approach rather their carefree attitude, it causes this to feel so at odds with itself that it’s hard to find it funny when he’s always in the right and the friends are so clearly wrong and trying to turn that into humor. This here really tends to drag the film down somewhat with this one keeping the illusion that what’s going on is inherently funny while not doing much of anything to really showcase it with lame gags and irritating characters making bad decisions, which is what really holds this one up considerably. Otherwise, this one wasn’t too terrible.

Zombie Indian Curse
Opens up with a pair of legs, with no body, still standing, and a hand that seems to still have a little life to it with two guys talking about it then the opening credits role and then boredom sets in.There’s an Asian guy with a “white” name, he was adopted. He works for an Investment firm, i think. He gets in a car crash with some…either dirty white guy, badly tanned white guy, or something I don’t even want to think about. Then there’s a phone conversation, or something…bored yet?
I think it’s trying to be comedic, and while the leg and hand thing at the very beginning was humorous (though I didn’t laugh) the beginning is just boring.
The adopted guy goes on a camping trip with his brother (not Asian) and before that happens we meet his brother’s best friend and another guy who looks like Julia Sweeney’s “Pat” from the film “It’s Pat” (and SNL, I guess).
So…it’s the camping trip, still doing the adopted Asian baby gag. One time was enough, I still haven’t laughed. The acting isn’t bad. Actually pretty good in parts. Even the direction and video quality isn’t bad. The music is okay. It’s the script. It’s too amateurish, and stereotypical (toward the adopted Asian guy, the “redneck” at the car crash, and every other character).
Did I mention the Zombie? If you bury people on an Indian burial ground, you get Zombies. It all makes sense. Slow walking Zombie seems to walk really really fast as they are walking very very slow.
I know, it’s a conundrum.
Hey, did you know Zombies sound like King Kong met a lion then afterward chokes you with your intestines while you just stand there screaming about it? Hey, did you know blowing up a Zombie doesn’t work? Sure pieces seem to fly everywhere but somehow it pieces itself back together with the same clothes it was wearing before it blew up?
I never laughed. But…it wasn’t that bad. I’ve actually seen worse, believe it or not.
