Good movie but lack of chemistry.
I saw the title for the movie a few weeks ago, and I’ve been wanting to see it since then. I’m a little disappointed. The plot was good, believable. It made so much sense, i’m actually happy. Yes, it’s predictable. But when one has seen so many movies of this type you know the ending for all of them. Even the subplots make sense. The character were good too though, but…
What disappointed me was the lack of chemistry between the two leads. I have never seen them act before, but every time Scott talked to Olivia I felt he was uncomfortable. Olivia is a nice character trying to save her dad’s company, and she did it great, but I felt she was indifferent. I was happier with her dad’s story and Karen and Peter’s.
Despite that, It was a nice movie, enjoyable, but if the leads do not have that spark, I feel that the movie is somehow empty.
Different Plot, Same Formula
The plot summary at the top of the IMDb page isn’t entirely correct. Olivia didn’t inherit her family’s moving company. She just started helping out her dad, after returning home from being fired. Her goal was always to find another interior design job and return to her life in NY. And Scott had never wanted to take over the company either. The moving gig was always temporary for him. Another employee, Pete, wanted to run the company when Olivia’s dad retired. This movie was sweet, but nothing too memorable. It had the same formula as all of these tv romances. But at least the romance portion was secondary to the main story. Olivia, Scott, and the other employees work to get her dad’s moving company back on its feet. They end up using Olivia’s gift of interior design as a tactic to generate new business. The moving company not only moved people out of their old homes, but helped them recreate their new homes. While working together, Scott and Olivia eventually develop feelings for each other. But she was able to get her old job back, and had to return to NY to start a new restaurant design gig. Olivia went to meet Scott at a local restaurant/bar to say goodbye and probably see if their feelings were mutual. Then She sees him hugging his ex girlfriend and immediately leaves. Scott goes by her dad’s house to see her and finds out she is already back home in NY. Of course he is hurt that Olivia neglected to say goodbye. They both go on with their lives for a bit. She finishes her design job and he applies for law school in NY. A friend of Olivia’s sends Scott an invite to her restaurant design’s grand reveal. They discuss the misunderstanding about the ex girlfriend, he says he is staying in NY , and they kiss. The end. Lol
What drives me crazy about movies like this is that most of the time, the misunderstanding does NOT have to happen!!! Even I could tell that the hug between Scott and his ex was platonic. Plus, he and Olivia had LITERALLY just started having feelings. No kissing. No dates. They hadn’t even talked about it. Ok so they did hold hands for a millisecond. I think Olivia should’ve walked up to them like it was nothing. If it had been, at least she would’ve known for sure, instead of assuming. And since it actually wasn’t anything, Olivia could’ve officially been with Scott from that moment.
But to be honest, I didn’t really like Olivia anyway. Maybe it was the actress who didn’t fit. I don’t think she paired well with her dad. Or as an interior designer. And especially not with Scott. Maybe if they’d had more screen time to connect and develop chemistry. I don’t know. But Olivia didn’t seem as receptive to it anyway.
