Oh dear ….
It’s a shame that, with a population of 5.5 million people, there were no actors available to play the parts in this movie. The story line is poor enough but the pathetic attempts at Scots accents from the male cast are woeful, they land somewhere between Ireland and Whisky Galore and make me cringe listening to them. The “plot” was pretty obvious from the start but the kitch and utter nonsense presented is the worst type of portrayal of Scotland possible.

A very generic romantic Christmas movie…
Granted, when I stumbled upon this 2021 Christmas movie titled “A Castle For Christmas” and I saw that the movie had the likes of Brooke Shields and Cary Elwes on the cast list, I have to admit that I was harboring some expectations to it.

So I sat down to watch what writers Ally Carter and Kim Beyer-Johnson managed to put together with this particular movie. And I will say that while the movie was watchable, director Mary Lambert only managed to deliver a lukewarm Christmas movie here.

“A Castle For Christmas” does play on the usual sappy romantic Christmas troves that has been seen countless times in other similar movies, so there were no points scored for originality here really. Well, aside from the Scottish castle and Duke aspect to it. And yeah, “A Castle For Christmas” is actually just a run-of-the-mill generic romantic Christmas movie, you know, the ones that come a dime a dozen. But hey, if you enjoy those sappy cheesy movies, then “A Castle For Christmas” will be something for you.

I had expected a tad more from the movie, I will admit that. So I was somewhat disappointed and only mildly entertained by what writers Ally Carter and Kim Beyer-Johnson managed to deliver.

Sure, both Brooke Shields and Cary Elwes are good at their craft, but this movie just wasn’t the crowning jewel in either of their acting careers.

My rating of “A Castle For Christmas” lands on a less than mediocre four out of ten stars, as the movie just didn’t cut it. The movie was somewhat devoid of that traditional cheery Christmas feel.
