3-D Rarities — Wonderful demo and historic release!!
My # 10 superlative rating of “3-D Essentials” reflects my overall excitement, amazement and enthusiastic reaction to the thrilling content and incredible restoration accomplishments Flicker Alley’s release of this incredible compilation demonstrates!! Producer Bob Furmanek and 3-D restorer Greg Kintz have made available the BEST reason for the continued viability of 3-D— by showing us just how GOOD it really WAS all those years ago!! And, by comparison, how anemic most of today’s timid product is . It amazes me to think that current producers, studios and mommies don’t realize how much kids LOVE 3-D POP-OUT!!

The box reads: “3-D Rarities: A Collection of 22 Ultra-Rare and Stunningly Restored 3-D Films” And that says it all. From the early-20th century shorts to 1950s previews (“It Came from Outer Space” and “The Maze” most prominent), a Caspar cartoon in wonderful color, shots of the 1939 New York World’s Fair…..I could go on, but just check the listings here for complete contents. And learn all about the films and cuttings through the excellent booklet provided.

If you are a fan of 3-D or just believe (correctly) that it’s simply too exciting and viable a format to simply “go away” OR be relegated to second-rate timid 21st-century presentations, then “3-D Rarities” is for you and your family. And will you all ever enjoy having a truly representative demo-disc for your friends!!!

I can’t rate this disc too highly–that’s why the top rating– 10!!” As a 10-year old 3-D fan in the 1950s, I enjoyed many 3-D films in our small-town theatre and owned many of the View-Master (demo’d) and 3-D comic books shown. Now Greg Kintz and Bob Furmanek have demonstrated that those “relics” are NOT to be forgotten or ignored.

Here’s hoping that “3D Rarities” helps spark more interest in the restoration and exhibition of 3-D films from ALL the eras that the 100 years of this essential release covers!!

Interested parties should order this one IMMEDIATELY before it sells out!!!! Do not miss “3-D Rarities.”

Great early 3D shorts
I had gotten this reserve in April and got it after the June the 15th.I am surprised no one has wrote a Blog about This .It is a compilation of 3D shorts and trailers,From the experiment of the 1920 to 1953. This Blu ray disk contain a book which explain each short. It’s hard for me to to decide which is my favorite .The early experiments from the Plasticon series are interesting .Early view of the Washington capitol.Popping out from the 1920’s They also had throw at your face scenes too.One showed a disgusting old which trying to make you drink old poisons fragment .Then there’s a ballet dancer .The back ground music is from old 78s .What I did not under stand is that the movie had show 1935 shots from the Pete smith Scopics series in Polaroid ,but, they were silent .I learned that these were test shot that Pete smith had decide to use that were silent and sound was added later. .Then there were some artistic avaunt guard color short made in Canada in the early fifties before the 3D features were made ,with their stereo phonic sound surviving the ravages of time. One thing I was disappointed .I was misinformed that the short that starred Nat king Cole was going to b a part of this compilation .Wrong it was a second trailer part of the trailer of It came from outer space switching to mono then to stereo.Even though the jokes were crummy,I really enjoyed the burlesque Short.I’ll sell my shirt. In the strip tease number the only problem is that the beginning where the stripper is swinging on a swing, the right and left of the legs are not together.I learn that it had gotten out of phase during the camera shoot ,over 60 years ago go.One the best is the Technicolor one frame animation of a car being put together. The first Technicolor 3D short .It was made for the worlds fair in 1940.The best trailer was the Sadie Thomson trailer.I’ve seen this film thousands of time .This was the first time I was able to see some of the 3D.Rita is singing The heat on.It advertises Rita sings in 3D,Rita love in 3D.Th best was the cartoon,The animated puppet show of Adventure of Sam Space ,cropped for wide screen t.v. and Casper the friendly ghost in Boo Moon. That was excellent In the end you had the Francis ford Coppola 3D sequence attach to a German comedy made in 1958 starring Karin Dor and Willy Fritsch ,Bell boy and the play Girls, but, it was no Nudie Cutie sequence . This whole compile is worth collecting for those who are fans of 3d film history 6/29/15
