Brutally honest, daring and engaging.
I fortunately got invited to watch an independent film that’s built of six very engaging vignettes of people with difference of opinion, six individual and unique situations leading to a conclusion as all stories must.Director and writer Shane McGoey give us his first feature length film, having previously worked on big pictures such as Django Unchained, Now You See Me and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. He’s also the writer behind the highly regarded sci-fi short, Sweetheart.
Filmed on a budget of an impressive $60k in an even more impressive six day shoot, it’s quite incredible having captured some strong performances for a near 90min movie. This is true art of conversation as the script-writing is astounding, intelligent and thought-provoking. The camera work is brilliant, especially the focus on the speaker of that given moment. Again, impressed this was achieved perfectly in just six days of shooting.
With each segment being quite different from its neighbouring piece, the film covers a lot of ground with a a vast variety of current topics and dilemmas, anything being a matter of opinions that lead from discussion into argument or just awkward disagreements. It’s amazing to watch the conversation play out between the characters, allowing the debate to form a picture of what type of person they are without giving anything away.
It’s really good to see a film that uses the script and character interactions as the key part of the movie, reminding me of films like The Last Supper and Glengarry Glen Ross, films those brilliance is owed mostly to great script-writing and story-telling.
Most of the time you feel like you’ve walked into a room with two people having a heated discussion, only having to try to catch up by eavesdropping on what they’re saying. It’s brutally honest, daring and highly engaging. A must-see for all those that appreciate brilliant script- writing.
Running Time: 9 The Cast: 8 Performance: 8 Direction: 8 Story: 8 Script: 10 Creativity: 7 Soundtrack: 5 Job Description: 10 The Extra Bonus Points: 10 purely for the incredible script and character interaction.
