Very good film about one of China’s greatest heroes: Mao Zedong
Very good film about one of China’s greatest heroes: Mao Zedong. According to this film, Mao Zedong was a very humble and gentle guy, who emphasized very much with the suffering of the people who supported the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, during China’s civil war. So in my opinion, there is also a whiff of propaganda in this historical film – concerning the Communist Party of China, which to this day rules China with an iron fist. Indeed, as this film shows, ‘political power grows out of the barrel of a gun’ – the exact phrase having been coined by Chinese communist leader Mao Zedong himself. So it would seem that today’s Communist Party of China still has not evolved beyond that primitive state – namely that true political power does not come out of the barrel of a gun; but rather from civil rights and liberty; such as freedom of speech, freedom of press and freedom of association; being both an individual right and a collective right, guaranteed by all modern and democratic legal systems, especially the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Interesting to note, that in the 1960s Mao Zedong’s so-called “Great Leap Forward” in mainland China lead to catastrophic famines and millions of deaths; as well as progress by the PRC towards possible development of nuclear weapons. Thus, Chiang Kai-shek – Mao Zedong’s nemesis – saw a crisis-opportunity to launch an attack to reclaim mainland China. To be successful Chiang Kai-shek knew he needed US military assistance; but the U.S. opposed and refused Chiang’s suggestions. This is probably the reason why the CPC’s revolution – under Mao Zedong – ultimately succeeded; because they had the goodwill of the USA and most western countries during that time. So hopefully the Communist Party of China will maintain the goodwill of the USA and Europe in the future, by making the necessary reforms in China; as stipulated by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
