There have been a quite a few TV documentaries on cats in the last few years but they have been conspicuously disappointing – over-long for the material, disappointing visually and educationally and rather charmless.

This however is an extraordinary documentary which simultaneously excels in all departments. It is as beautifully shot and produced as the best commercial,full of new and surprising information, perfectly illustrated, and as charming and affecting as the best classic Hollywood blockbuster. It manages to balance information on the species, on breeds as well as individual personalities. It is so complete, sets the bar so high that it is surely the last word. A marvel.
