A deliberately ambiguous story-line can be extremely frustrating (as ratings for this film indicate). It’s a film that reinforces your beliefs, but no matter how many times watching, it never fully confirms them. You think you know, but you are always not totally sure. These cinema gems get lost in history, but truly are magnificent little works. Watch it again couple decades later, little if anything will be lost (or better understood). If you want to be challenged and contemplate the human condition.. this is your type of production. The cast is wonderful, and hit every mark. Should they have ended with another viewpoint.. maybe, most films can and do… but this one seems to work for this moment in time. It’s a film that those who have watched it more than once give it higher ratings. She took that extra time.. and made her ultimate ‘choice.’ He had chances, and missed them each time.. her troubled gaze at the end says it all.
