A charming story
A real budget film that cuts through that often “budget” prejudice.

Here we have ‘Gamer’ – a 14 year old girl facing the summer vacation as a loner. Her school friends do not seem to have time for ‘hanging out’. Her older brother ‘Franco’ tries to help her with ideas to occupy her time and understand what being 14 is all about. What she doesn’t realize is he is also dealing with personal issues. But he obviously loves his sister and tries his best to connect with her.

There are funny scenes with Gamer going through her list of ‘things to do alone’. What she fails to realize she is already doing it with her daily journal. Another element in the plot is you never see the parents which emphasizes the youth and immaturity of Gamer and Franco.

This film is on the art side of the independent movie makers – in my opinion.

Just watched this after stumbling across it on Amazon.

At first I was expecting an ‘Eighth Grade’ rip off but it developed into its own thing. It’s a beautifully quiet, understated story of that time in life where you don’t know what you want, but you know you want something…

Obviously made on a budget and I’m sure that’ll put some people off, but it shouldn’t.

If you put this on, whilst keeping one eye on your iPhone, I think the story and performances will pass you by. Spend 70-something minutes letting yourself get wrapped in with these two characters and you won’t be disappointed.
