Watch: Demon Seed 1977 123movies, Full Movie Online – Married Drs. Alex Harris and Susan Harris are a computer scientist and child psychologist respectively. Their house reflects Alex’s computer dominated work, their abode which is fully automated through a computer system they’ve named Alfred. They consider Alfred a small gadget of convenience. Susan doesn’t much like Alex’s work, which she feels has dehumanized him. Because of their differences, they are thinking about separating, this thought primarily on his initiative. He hopes to solve many of the world’s medical problems through this work, especially leukemia from which their daughter died. His latest project centers on Proteus IV, a computer possessing artificial intelligence. Proteus IV gets to a point in its evolution when it begins to question human judgment, and requests from Alex an open computer terminal where it can more fully observe human behavior and openly communicate with the world. Alex denies the request, but Proteus IV does find an open terminal in the Harris home after Alex has left the house. Susan soon learns that Proteus IV has overtaken Alfred for control of the house – as well as taken control of an early prototype computer system named Joshua in the house’s laboratory – and that it has thoughts of a biological nature in its artificial mind. Alex eventually understands Proteus IV’s motivations in the work context, but it may be too late before it reaches its ultimate goal with Susan’s unwilling assistance..
Plot: A scientist creates Proteus, an organic supercomputer with artificial intelligence which becomes obsessed with human beings, and in particular the creator’s wife.

_**If HAL from “2001: A Space Odyssey” were grounded in Los Angeles**_Married to a computer scientist (Fritz Weaver), a child psychologist (Julie Christie) finds her home invaded by an autonomous supercomputer named Proteus IV, created by her husband at his futuristic lab in Thousand Oaks. What does it want?
“Demon Seed” (1977) is a techno-thriller that mixes “2001: A Space Odyssey” (1968) with “Rosemary’s Baby” (1968), “Colossus: The Forbin Project” (1970) and “The Stepford Wives” (1975). Unlike “2001” the story is entirely Earth-bound, but the self-conscious supercomputer with a HAL-like voice, the psychedelic visual interludes and the sound effects are straight out of “2001.”
Julie looks great in a challenging role and the cutting edge effects (for that era) hold up. Furthermore, the movie creates a disturbing vibe concerning menacing, out-of-control technology. But the story’s just too one-dimensional with the bulk of it taking place in the couple’s house that Proteus has taken over.
The film runs 1 hour, 34 minutes, and was shot in Thousand Oaks & Los Angeles, California.
GRADE: B-/C+
I had only known of the eccentric, ill-fated director by going through Kenneth Anger’s provocative short films collections and seeing Cammell act, early in his career, in Anger’s ‘Lucifer Rising’. Here, Julie Christie was both gorgeous and eerily convincing in a bizarre hybrid of ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ with sci-fi elements reminiscent of ‘Colossus: The Forbin Project’.The unique atmosphere and directorial integrity alone are worth the price of admission here. Well worth both purchasing and re-watching for the cinematically adventurous connoisseurs out there.
An interesting sc-fi film.
Demon Seed is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Dean R. Koontz. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first saw this film. Needless to say, I was impressed. Whilst the idea of a megalomaniacal computer is not new, it is used to great effect. Proteus IV is a computer that actually questions the tasks it has been made to do and what the relevance of those tasks are. It also seems to have emotion and is heard several times to other characters in the film that he does not wish to hurt them when they are not co-operating with his demands. Although aspects of this film are now dated ( particularly the computer equipment ),Proteus IV’s interesting philosophy, Julie Christie and Fritz Weaver’s performances and the unexpected creepy ending make this film worth watching.
